Andrew, I feel the same way and sometimes I think I just "think too much". Most people seem to care about all the wrong things. Things that actually seem absurd to me. One absurd observation is what I call Emblem Envy-for those folks who are killing themselves to pay for plastic or metal or cloth items with certain emblems on them. Take an Escalade for instance-if the vehicle was manufactured with out any tell tale signs whatsoever that it was a Cadillac-no emblems, no signature design-then I dare say these behemoth gas guzzlers wouldn't be so desireable. I can give examples all day long- but I will spare you from the obvious.
Also another idea I had many years ago is this: as you know our climate is dictated by a cycle of precipitation, evaporation and condensation but every square foot of asphalt blocks that cycle from happening as nature intended. LIke putting black plastic tape zig zagged all over your skin.
How healthy can all this asphalt be for our porous earth?

Another sad observation is that most homeowners are brainwashed to the max against the very thought of letting any square inch of their yard go natural. While I try and leave as much as my yard totally in the hands of mother nature I know my neighbors don't approve. In fact I'm quite sure they think I am not well mentally. But that's their problem really.
I have felt like the square peg all my life (43 yrs.)and keep wondering what it's going to take to get people to wake up and think for themselves. I hope it won't be some irreversable disaster.
The point is: do what you can in your little corner and know that there are other like minded people that are trying to live in harmony with nature. Keep up the good work and write only when you feel like it. Don't pressure yourself-remember " float downstream".

I thoroughly enjoyed the nature rant and I agree with all aspects of it whole heartedly. If you and I feel this way there are bound to be millions of others with us. The fall of the American Empire seems imminent. Will it collapse in on itself or will its restructing come from factors created by outside influences. Who knows?
